Spring Concert –
The Wyneken Music Department will present their
annual Spring Music Concert on Thursday,
April 24 at 7:00PM in the cafetorium.
Those participating include the Recorders, Chimes, Advanced Band
members, Beginner Band members, Wyneken Chorus and the Wyneken 6th-8th
Grades Choir. All are invited to attend this special evening of
musical entertainment. PARENTS – DON’T
FORGET YOUR HOMEMADE GOODIES FOR THE BAKE SALE. Grandparents/Special Guests Day, May 2, 7:45AM-12:30PM – Registration forms were sent home last week with each child and are to be returned by Friday, April 25, especially if your guest(s) will be eating lunch. All lunches need to be pre-ordered. ALL KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS WILL BE ATTENDING ON THIS DAY. Pre-Kindergarten children do not eat lunch at school unless staying for childcare.
Spring Scholastic Book Fair – April 28 - May 2, located in the lower grade hallway, will be open to all our guests. Books for children through adults will be for sale.
NWEA Testing – Students in grades 3-8 will begin their testing on April 21 and continue through May 1. We ask that you please not make appointments, if at all possible, or plan vacation days during this time. This is their final NWEA testing for this school year.
Scrip – The scrip committee is in need of a scrip assistant to help with the inventory orders every other week and every third week throughout the summer months. The job would consist of counting money, calling in the orders and printing checks. The ordering process takes approximately 2 hours. If interested, please call Jane Kleine at 639-7244 or Sara Butler at 724-7025. Remember scrip for your everyday needs such as groceries and gas. Scrip is available all day in the school office on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and after church services on Sundays.
April/May Chapel Offerings – Our chapel offerings for the last quarter of school are being designated to help pay for medical expenses for Nick (a Wyneken graduate) and Rebecca Hoffman, members of St. Paul (Preble) Lutheran Church. Nick and Rebecca were seriously injured in a car accident on February 23. A benefit for the family will also be held on Saturday, May 10 (rain or shine) at The Preble Fireman’s Park. The days activities kick off at noon with a hog roast, a poker run (bikes & vehicles) & family activities starting at 1PM and live music with three bands beginning at 4PM, raffles & auctions and t-shirt sales. Thank you for your generosity in helping this family.
Market Day – Grilling season is here! Market Day has great prices going on now in the newest brochure. Stock up on your family’s favorites for the summer, all on special this month – chocolate-chocolate chip snack cakes, string cheese, stuffed appetizer bread, pizza eat-zzas, chocolate chip cookie dough, Tropicana orange juice singles, mini cheese omelets, banana mini pancakes, cinnamon crunch French toast bites and many other great items. Order form to be returned by Wednesday, April 30; Internet orders by noon on Saturday, May 3. Pick up is Thursday, May 8, 6:00-7:00PM.
Early Dismissal – Wyneken will dismiss at 12:15PM on Monday, May 5. We will have North Adams bus service; East Allen families will need to arrange for pick up of their child/ren or call the Extended Care at 639-6064 to make other arrangements.
Wyneken Child Care – Any parents wanting childcare over the summer months, please call the childcare office ASAP at 639-6064. There are still some outstanding bills and another billing is on the way. Please make your payments as soon as possible. Call the childcare office for your account information.
Cheese Balls for Sale – The Wyneken Class of 2009 is selling cheese balls that will be available by order for your confirmation and Mother’s Day gatherings. There are three varieties available – chipped beef & cheese ($7), sharp cheddar with almonds ($7), and a chocolate chip dessert cheese ball ($8). If interested, order forms are available in the school office. All orders need to be in by Monday, April 28 for Confirmation, and by Monday, May 5 for Mother’s Day. Your order will be available for pick up before and after school in the office on Thursday, May 1 or Thursday, May 8. If necessary, other arrangements can be made for delivery. Flower Sales – The Wyneken Class of 2009 will be selling flower certificates from Schmuckers Nursery (Doty Road/SR37), McNamara’s (formerly Sandpoints) and The Grainery (Decatur). We will also be taking orders for Heller Nursery (Decatur/Peterson). If interested in purchasing flowers from Hellers Nursery, an order form will need to be filled out; gift certificates to The Grainery, Schmuckers, and McNamara’s are available from any 7th grade student. The first delivery will be Saturday, May 10. We will be at the Spring Concert on Thursday to take orders and on Grandparents Day.
Wyneken Window Decals – Show your school pride! Purchase a Wyneken window decal (white lettering, approximate size 5x7) for $7.50 in the school office or by contacting Linda Kleine at 639-3749. Proceeds to benefit the class of 2009 Washington DC trip.
Wyneken Speech Contest – The 7th & 8th graders recently participated in a speech contest. Each of the students gave a speech in front of their classmates. The classroom teacher chose the top five speeches. These 10 students then gave their speeches to the students in grades 3-8. The teachers in grades 3-8 listened to the speeches and evaluated them. The top 4 students were recognized. The top five students from 7th grade were Nicole Norton, Ally Todd, Emma Scheumann, Jordan Schroeder & Madison Stoppenhagen. The top five students from 8th grade were Ethan Lichtle, Katie Norder, Mikala Quinn, Alexa Singleton & Owen Strahm. The top four winners were Nicole Norton (1st), Madison Stoppenhagen (2nd), Ally Todd (3rd), and Katie Norder (4th). Congratulations to the 10 finalists and the top 4 winners!
Matt’s Rack – Matt’ Rack is a clothing bank that is starting for the Lutheran School System. The clothing bank will be located in the Fort Wayne area. This bank will serve children from Preschool through high school ages. Plans are for this clothing bank to open next fall. They are looking for donations of clothing to start filling up the “bank”. They are accepting the following types of clothing that are either NEW OR GENTLY USED ONLY (NO STAINS OR TEARS OR HOLES): Winter coats/Spring jackets/Sweatshirts – Winter hats/Gloves/Mittens – Boots – Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall school clothing – Uniforms. As you can see, they are accepting clothing for ANY SEASON. The clothing should be CLEAN AND APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL. Please start looking through your closets for clothes you might donate. In the near future, Wyneken will designate a certain week to bring in your donations. Please watch the Wyneken Weekly and Sunday bulletins for further information.
Open Gym – Wyneken gym will be open for basketball on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00PM starting Sunday, April 27. We will run open gym until the start of soccer in the fall on every Sunday except holiday weekends or if the school is needed for other functions. This is limited to 4th grade on up for both boys and girls. Parents of the younger children are asked to stay and help supervise your child’s participation. Remember, this is just like a gym class in that the use of proper shoes and clothing is expected.
Sport Camp Forms – Available in the office is Heritage Girls Basketball summer camp forms for current 2nd-7th grades/Heritage soccer camp forms for boys & girls, Kindergarten-8th grades/Decatur Parks & Rec Fall Soccer forms for boys & girls, Kindergarten-8th grades.
